Need To Know?

Why do you need to know HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, WordPress, Bootstrap, SASS and the like when there are tools like Wix for building Web sites?

w3Techs has compiled some interesting data on what businesses (top 10 million sites) are actually using to build their Web presence. Between basic technologies (HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, PHP, jQuery, Bootstrap and the like  - "none" on the chart) and WordPress our curriculum covers over 80% of the technology used.

About the numbers:

From

http://w3techs.com/blog/entry/wordpress-powers-25-percent-of-all-websites

WordPress is used by a staggering 37.3% of English language websites [compared with 25% worldwide]

... we count the hosted sites only if they are reachable via their own domain (not only as subdomain of wordpress.com), and they must qualify like all other sites in our surveys by getting enough visitors on that separate domain to make it into the top 10 million Alexa sites. [ie. they are mostly enterprise sites] As a result, the vast majority of the millions of blogs at WordPress.com are not counted. Only 1.25% of the WordPress sites in our surveys are hosted by Automattic at WordPress.com. That makes the WordPress CMS market share even more remarkable.

... among the top 1000 sites ... more than 90% of them are custom developments [HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, PHP, jQuery, Bootstrap and the like].
